Youtube, Podcasts, Apps... How your phone can help you study!

Samantha

Like most people, I spend a majority of my downtime on my phone, aimlessly scrolling through Instagram and switching between social media apps. But what if we could use that downtime to be more productive and study without even lifting a book? Thankfully, we live in a world where there is an app or social media account for pretty much anything-- even nursing. This post will highlight some of the best apps and accounts you can use to study on your phone, anytime, anywhere!

Youtube

Watching videos on Youtube is a great way to review material from class and look at difficult concepts another way. I personally find that they help me visualize things I can't seem to wrap my head around in new and creative ways.

Registered Nurse RN

With over 1 million subscribers, RN Sarah provides nursing students everywhere help with anything nursing related. Subscription to her youtube channel is free and accessible from any platform. Some things her account provides are:

- NCLEX review

- Study tips

- Nursing skills tips and tricks

- Concept Lectures

Nurse Mendoza

Nurse Mendoza is a male nurse with 59,000 subscribers. His channel takes on a more inspirational approach, with motivational videos and other tips. Topics covered through his videos include:

- Tips to prevent nurse burnout

- Time management tips

- Effective communication

- Career Advice

Podcasts

Nursing podcasts are great to listen to in the car, at the gym, on a walk, or even while folding your laundry! It is so simple to turn on a podcast and let it play when you can't watch something, but still want to use that free time for a little review.

"My Nursing Mastery"

This podcast is offered on Spotify, Apple, and Google podcasts. It is great for anyone trying to gain guidance on how to pass the NCLEX, wants to review major nursing processes, and gain advice on all things nursing related.

"Keep Going, Student Nurse!"

This podcast is featured on Apple Podcasts and Soundcloud. It is more of a motivational podcast than a study tool; however, it offers insight into the great things about nursing that sometimes get over looked. Each week a new nurse from a different profession joins the host and they discuss what their nursing life looks like.

Apps

Downloading an app on your phone is another great way to review nursing concepts and help study for your tests. Many apps provide NCLEX style practice questions, lessons with videos, "cheatsheets" that can be downloaded, and even offer help writing care plans! Some do require a subscription for full material access, but it is worth it as you gain so much extra practice and it is right there on your phone! Two great apps are linked below:

Instagram

Following a nursing account on Instagram is a great way to add a little bit of studying into your feed. @yournursingeducator is a great account ran by a Barbara, a telemetry RN working in Canada. She posts things like:

- Med Mondays

- Tips for working on different units

- Concept Reviews

I think she does a great job of making her reviews concise and thorough! I always enjoy seeing her posts on my feed and learning something new each time!
