In nursing school studying is something many of us can agree on that we spend most of our time doing. When not in class or clinical, we are always trying to make sure that we are well prepared for our exams and have a thorough understanding of lecture content. Studying is essentially something that we do every single day. During quarantine studying may not be our top priority, but it is important not to neglect studying. Here are some tips to help you study effectively from home right now.
1. Keep Everything Organized
Keeping organized is essential when studying in school or at home. While at home it may be difficult to study in an area you are not used to studying in. It is much easier to study in a clean area where you have room for all of your studying material. If you organize your work and keep track of all of your assignments you will not forget to do anything. Being organized does not just have to do with the setting you are working in. You should also use sticky notes or a planner to keep up to date on all your assignments and prioritize them.
2. Keep a routine.
One of the largest impacts that the quarantine had on our lives was how it disrupted our daily routines. Many of us are working from home, going to school from home, or not working at all. Falling out of your routine can be extremely easy! Start by trying to go to sleep and waking up around the same time everyday. This will help your Circadian Rhythm and make you feel more energized and less tired. Plan out when to do work based on when you have classes. If you do not have classes on zoom, plan out when to watch your lectures via Panopto or to do class work. Try to stick to this schedule on weekends to ensure that you stay in a routine that works for you!
3. Stay off of your phone!
We are all connected to our phones, especially during quarantine. While taking a quick break on your phone might seem like a good idea, in reality these breaks add up and just distract you. This can be especially hard nowadays because our phone is one of the only ways to communicate
4. Communicate to others that you are studying!
Many of our family members are also home from school or work right now and it can be a hassle to try studying with so many people at home. Let your family know when you have class or you need to study. Doing this will allow you to concentrate and study with no distractions.
5. Set Manageable Goals
When you plan what material you are going to study, be realistic! Do not try and cram too much material in too short of a time. Instead, focus your time on what is most important but still make sure you have time to study your other material. If you try to study too much material in an unrealistic amount of time you will only find yourself stressed and unmotivated.
