Missing our Second Home

Hailey

It's been about a month since leaving Binghamton and I feel like a piece of me is missing. Binghamton University, as well as the town surrounding it, has such a special place in my heart. There are so many things that I miss about living there that I can't wait to return to.

For starters, everyone knows that Binghamton has the best restaurants in town. I love how there are always places to satisfy your cravings so matter what you want in that moment. For example, if I am longing for a good Penne alla Vodka, I can always depend on Lost Dog Cafe. If a burger is on my mind, The Colonial is always my go-to. I also enjoy special occasion dinners when my family is in town at nice restaurants such as Number 5 and Remliks.

Something that I used multiple days a week as a student on campus without a car was the app JoyRun. This is an app like Uber Eats or Door Dash, except the people that pick up and deliver the food are paid Binghamton students. This was so helpful in getting food delivered to me, such as Chipotle, when I had cravings in the dorms.

Although the food in Binghamton is amazing, it's not the only thing that is worth talking about. There are always so many places to go to in the surrounding town and so many ways to keep yourself busy when you aren't in the library studying. One of my favorite things to do is go to the Cider Mill for the most delicious apple cider and donuts. My friends and I make sure to go here every year and make a whole day out of it. In addition, something else we enjoy is the ice skating rink at Broome Community College. There are delicious snacks here that we love to enjoy when we take breaks off the ice. In addition, although movie nights in the dorms are fun, it is always enjoyable to check out the Regal Theater and explore new movies. Lastly, I absolutely love going to the Oakdale Mall to take a break from school and shop a little! Shopping sprees are always fun and distracting when you need a little rest.

Speaking of shopping, there are so many stores near the University that I constantly go to. Whether it's at Target, Party City, Five Below, Walmart, The Dollar Store, AC Moore or Boscov's, it is never difficult finding things that you need. All of the supplies that I've looked for throughout the years for classes and daily life are readily available at these stores. Also, it's worth mentioning that the Binghamton Bookstore has so much for you, from textbooks and school supplies, to medications, to snacks and apparel, it's definitely great to check this out!

The town of Binghamton and places around it truly accommodate all of the needs of the students and I will always appreciate all the places that have kept me busy there throughout the years!
