Thinking about applying for a minor? Here is a rundown of each minor offered at Decker College. Note: the following minors are open to all Binghamton Undergraduate students.
Arts in Healthcare minor
This minor is for students who are interested in pursing a career as artists in healthcare settings or as healthcare professionals intending to incorporate the arts into their practice. You will gain hands-on service-learning opportunities and learn about the power of arts to improve health and well being.
Requirements & Courses
24 credits and consists of two core and four elective courses
Most students can complete the minor in 2–3 semesters
To apply: complete the application including a 300–500 word personal statement that details your interest in the Arts in Healthcare minor and how it can contribute to your academic or career goals
Note: There are no prerequisites or a required GPA. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Public Health Minor
Public Health focuses on protecting and improving community health by focusing on prevention, education, and policy. This minor will allow you to dive deep into the scientific foundations and core epidemiologic principles of public health.
Requirements & Courses
24 credits and consists of six core courses

Requires a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
Note: There are no prerequisites
Forensic Health minor
This minor is suitable for students majoring in fields with forensic applications (nursing, biology, chemistry, anthropology, psychology, sociology, social work, public health) who are considering careers in healthcare, forensic sciences or the law.
Requirements & Courses
24 credit hours — 16 credits of core courses and two adjunct courses (8 credits)
To be considered, must have 45 completed earned hours and a minimum GPA of 3.0

Applications are reviewed three times a year:
March — applications due by March 15
July — applications due by July 15
October — applications due by October 15
Health and Wellness Studies minor
Health and Wellness Studies focuses on health promotion and wellness education to promote healthy living in both personal and professional aspects. This minor help students integrate core concepts and pursue careers in health and wellness.
Requirements & Courses
24 credits that consists of four core courses and 10 elective HWS credits
To apply: complete this application and include a personal statement and a copy of your up-to-date unofficial transcript
Requires a minimum GPA of 3.0
Speech and Hearing Science minor
This minor will prepare students to apply to a graduate program in speech and language pathology (it does not allow students to practice as speech-language pathologists).
