Graduate Programs at Decker

The Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences is known for their accredited undergraduate nursing program. Some may not know how great the graduate programs are at Decker as well.



There are multiple graduate programs offered as of the 2021-2022 academic year.



As of this year, Decker College has four Master's in Nursing programs. These programs are designed to prepare students to become Nurse Practitioners in a specialty of their choosing. The programs are as follows:


  • MS in Adult-gerontological primary care nursing: This program provides students with an in-depth understanding of health and illness in the adult and older-adult populations. Graduates are prepared to provide advanced nursing care to well adults/elders, acutely and chronically ill adults/elders, and frail older persons in community or institutional settings.

  • MS in Community health primary care nursing (family nursing with a community health emphasis): Graduates assess and diagnose actual and potential health problems of the community and work with individuals, families, groups and communities to improve and maintain health.

  • MS in Family nursing: This program prepares nurses for advanced practice with families by addressing individual and family health problems, family functioning and complex families. Certified nurse midwives who have a bachelor's degree in nursing may enroll in this program.

  • MS in Family psychiatric mental health nursing: Graduates of the program in family psychiatric mental health nursing are prepared to provide comprehensive, client-centered mental health care to individuals, families and groups across the lifespan. Students acquire in-depth knowledge in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness, as well as the promotion of mental health.



Decker College also offers certificate programs for students who already have a Master's Degree in Nursing but want to specialize. These certificate programs include:

  • Adult-gerontological primary care nursing

  • Community health primary care nursing

  • Family nursing

  • Family psychiatric mental health nursing

  • Nursing education: This program encompasses current technological trends while preparing students for the role of nurse educator to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate nursing degree levels.

  • Disaster management: Graduates of the Advanced Certificate in Disaster Management program are prepared to develop and implement educational programs for first responders, community-based organizations, voluntary organizations and academic institutions.

  • Forensic health: The Advanced Certificate in Forensic Health program is open to all students who have a baccalaureate degree and who are interested in forensics.

PHD Programs


The Decker School of Nursing's PhD program in nursing prepares graduates:

  • For research and active scholarship in nursing that will extend the knowledge base of nursing and improve the delivery of healthcare for rural and other vulnerable populations

  • To conduct research and develop theory related to these populations

  • To design future practice models, direct the development of policy initiatives and effect meaningful change within healthcare delivery systems
