Exercise To Get You Through Quarantine!

Danielle

Due to COVID-19, it can be difficult finding ways to exercise or get out of the house due to gyms across the country closing and due to getting less steps throughout the day from having to self-quarantine at home. Personally, I love going to the gym and getting some sort of physical activity throughout the day and due to the gyms closing I have had to come up with other exercise activities for me to do to stay active! Here are a few things I have been doing to stay active that you can do too!

1) Go outside and go for a run/jog/walk!

If it's a beautiful day outside, I love to jog around the blocks of my neighborhood by myself to get some fresh air. Even walking outside for a few minutes goes a long way! Being at school, you're constantly walking around campus and getting some exercise in that way, but being at home you can walk around the block, listen to music and take in the fresh air! If you have a pet, go for a walk! My dog LOVES walks and I typically walk him outside every day just to get out of the house for a little bit and get some fresh air. It's not only good for your body, but your pet will be happy too! I also live very close to a beach that has a bike trail and so many people have been riding their bikes to the beach for exercise (staying 6 ft. away of course.)

2) Find activities online that you can do at home

Before starting at the gym, I used to go on youtube and look up all different sorts of exercises that you can do at home. There are so many videos you can find with all different sorts of exercises such as yoga, HIIT, cardio, zumba, etc. I personally love doing full body workouts at home. I have my own yoga mat and some dumbbells and find all sorts of exercises to do at home each day even if it's for 30 minutes - 1 hour. It may not be the same as the gym, but any physical activity is good not only physically, but mentally as well. I also typically do my workouts whenever I need a break from studying. It helps to put my mind at ease and helps reduce stress.

3) Workout Apps

If you want specific workouts to do, besides youtube there are many apps that you can download to help you reach your goals. Whether it's nutrition apps or fitness apps, there are many free downloadable apps you can use. My favorite app to use is Gymshark! Gymshark due to quarantine has even uploaded free at home workout videos that you can watch at any time.

It can be very difficult to stay active during these times, but these are just some tips and tricks that I have been using to stay active during quarantine!
