We all have that one friend who seems as though they have their life together because they take the most satisfying notes for their classes. Each page is color coded, highlighted properly, and filled with beautifully hand drawn diagrams. Although it is not necessary to maintain "aesthetically pleasing" notes, it is important to at least have organized and legible notes which can make studying a little bit easier.
If you enjoy the old school way of taking notes, by pen and paper, continue to rock that method. Find some new pens or note formats that work for you. However, I personally enjoy taking notes on my iPad because it gives me more freedom to be creative and allows me to erase notes without the hassle of waiting for the White Out to dry. iPad notes are also more environmentally friendly and convenient because it allows you to carry an infinite number of notes everywhere you go. Another plus are the unlimited numbers of pens and colors that come with the apps, saving you money on highlighters and gel pens.
Here are some FREE apps that you can use to start taking more organized notes:
- Apple Notes
- Penultimate
- One Note with Microsoft account
- Evernote
Here are some apps under $10 that you can use if you want some more creative freedom:
- Notability
- Good Notes 5
- Nebo
There isn't a correct way to study for your nursing classes, as there are tactile/kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learning behaviors, but the first step is to have neat, organized notes. Make sure that you start gathering and organizing your notes at the beginning of the semester before your classes pick up! There are also hundreds of iPad note taking tutorials on YouTube, so feel free to watch those if you're having trouble adjusting from paper to digital notes. Good luck on all your exams!
